Many Pieces of Paper
Feb 25, 2012While training Gyokko Ryū with Sensei and my colleagues, he stopped our lesson briefly to explain that your movement “should be like many pieces of paper having the same thickness as one.” Without seeing his body language while explaining this it would of course make little sense.
Pulling one open hand toward him and the the other away, Sensei made the expression of two pieces of paper in the wind, brushing against each other. He went on to explain that for that moment, the two appear to share the same width, yet never actually touch. They then pass by each other in opposite direction.
“This is how you should move, kami hito e”
